What do I take with me when I go to Phuket?
We recommend you only take a back pack. This makes travel easier and cheaper. We are assuming a visit of 7-10 days. There are many many places to do your laundry and they are very cheap, efficient and quick. Remember the weather is always perfect, and anything you happen to forget can always be purchased in Thailand. So here is our recommended list: |
|
|
- Passport (No via required for Australians)
- Money (See next question for the amount recommended)
- Underwear, goggles, small alarm clock etc
- 2 tee shirts or tank tops
- Thongs or sandals only
- Toiletries + shaver (Ensure all bottles & pastes are under 100ml)
- Light pants or sundress (like thai pants) and shorts
- Swimming bathers, sun hat and sun glasses
- Camera and charger
- Scuba diving license if required
- Light plastic rain jacket (for June July)
- No need for a towel
- After sun, tanning lotion and all toiletries are available in Rawai at the many 7/11 stores and are much cheaper than Australia

How much money do I need in Phuket?
Leaving accommodation aside, it's easy to survive and enjoy for under 1,000Bhat/day ($35AUS). You can also find amazing accommodation with the most amazing view in the world with a pool for between 600Baht/night (1,100Baht during peak season). Contact us for specific details and options. Just to give you an idea of prices: you can expect to pay 200Baht ($7oz) for a 1 hr massage, 40Baht for a fried rice or pat thai, 100Baht for a beach lounger with umbrella, 50-100Baht for a grilled fish, 30Baht for a fruit shake, 80Baht for a tuna salad, rent a motor bike for 100Baht/day or a car for 350Baht/day. Allow extra funds for scuba diving and other adventures (See the question on what to do in Rawai, to get ideas of the possible adventures).
How to I get to Rawai?
Rawai is approx 45min from the Phuket airport and if you want, you can take a private taxi directly from the airport for approx 850Baht (prices are regulated at the airport). Alternatively, you can find a much cheaper and enjoyable exciting way. Take a 100Baht mini bus from the airport (or take the airport bus for 85Baht) to Phuket town. It takes approx 30min. Ask to get off at the market near the bus terminal. From the market, take a local mini bus directly to Rawai (35Baht). A taxi from Phuket town to your hotel in Rawai will cost you about 350Baht. Remember things are really easy in Thailand, just relax and never get upset at anything. Things are as they are. Enjoy the journey.
What is there to do in Rawai?
There are many things to do. In the South of Phuket we have two beautiful beaches, one is called Rawai beach and the other is Nai Harn beach (see photos on our website). Rent a chair and umbrella and spend the whole day, which may certainly be an option for many. Rawai is 40min away from Patong, 30min from Kata/Karong and 45min from the airport. So for some wild nightlife, shopping, and restaurants Patong and Kata is the place. Visit the central festival shopping mall and the Lotus-Tesco malls between Rawai and Phuket town (15min drive from Rawai). Eat at a different restaurant every meal. Go into Phuket town and get lost in the market. There is an amazing weekend marker called JJs near Phuket town (open Sat and Sun nights). It is a must if you are there over a weekend. Shopping is cheaper, bigger and better there than ANYWHERE in Bangkok including MBK and Koasan Road. Here are some more ideas: |
