How to get to Phuket cheaply from Australia?

The most common way to get to Phuket from Melbourne Australia is to ring your travel agent and they will book it for you. If you book in advance prices range from $1100 to $1800+ (including taxes) depending on the time of year (Obviously holiday time is more expensive)

However, there are very cheap ways to get to Phuket from Melbourne. You may have to spend an hour or so looking for the right dates but it's worth it. Start with Tiger airways (http://www.tigerairways.com/home/index.php ), and put Melbourne-Singapore in the search with the dates you want to fly, and start browsing. If you book a few months ahead you should find prices between $174 to $210 each way. (After taxes that works out to be approx $720 return). You can sometimes get the price down to $659 return. You are sometimes able to get even LOWER prices when specials come up from time to time from Jetstar and Tiger. Once you have booked tickets to Singapore, it is easy to get to Phuket. Air Asia (http://www.airasia.com ) fly everyday and have one flight per day departing Singapore at 13:15 and departing Phuket at 9:55. The flight time is 1.5 Hrs. The special fair is available when you book in advance. Air Asia has the cheapest flights costing $10 Singapore dollars each way (Approx $8 OZ), which works out to be $178SGD with taxes. (Approx $133oz) return, this includes insurance. Silk Air (Thai subsidiary) also fly to Phuket from Singapore but are more expensive. http://www.silkair.com
